Microsoft Calls Back Millions Of Fire Risk Power Cords

Microsoft is recalling over two million power cords of older models sold out with Surface tablets worldwide with the 56 reports of emitting flames and overheating.There were also reports of people getting electrical shocks. Microsoft claimed it received reports that cords for the first, second and third generation of the slab-book sold before 15 March could be faulty.The officials says that Winding the cables too tightly over an extended period of time could lead to overheating problems..Its a worldwide recall and the microsoft official says that the recall would be released soon. The US Consumer Product Safety Commission advised the users must unplug the cords and contact Microsoft for a free replacement.

The Surface Pro is a 2-in-1 first generation of the Microsoft Surface series.It was designed and manufactured by Microsoft. The device is a 64-bit version ofWindows 8 Pro operating system with a free upgrade possibility to Windows 8.1 Pro, and Windows 10. Initially announced as Surface for Windows 8 Pro on June 18, 2012, at a Los Angeles event,Microsoft later renamed the device to Surface Pro, and launched it on February 9, 2013.

The Microsoft official said “As a result of damage caused by AC power cords being wound too tightly, twisted or pinched over an extended period of time, a very small proportion of Surface Pro customers have reported issues with their AC power cord.We will be releasing details of how customers can obtain a free replacement cable shortly.”

The channel analyst at Canyl Tim Coulling estimates that Microsoft has sold over five million surface devices since the launch including first quarter calender. Microsoft has announced the recall at the end of January, but did not reveal how many complaints it has got.The Surface Pro has lost Microsoft money in the 18 months after its launch in October 2012.The recall is not on all products.Products which are to be recalled are  Surface Pro, Surface Pro 2 and Surface Pro 3 tablets sold out before March 2015 in the US and Canada and July 2015 outside of those countries.
